Mobile Learning Authoring Tools
If you’re in the market for an authoring tool that will produce eLearning courses for both desktop and tablet delivery, clearly three of the best options available today are the recently released Claro by Domiknow, Adobe Captivate 6.6 and Articulate Storyline.
So which one should you purchase? It’s tricky as all three authoring tools create great looking eLearning courses.
An option that we love is Claro by Domiknow. Claro creates HTML 5-based content, so all of its authoring features can be used to create engaging and interactive courses for delivery on smart phones or tablet devices. And Claro comes complete with layout themes for smart phone and tablet courses — to help you get started quickly. Mobile courses designed in Claro support the full range of assessment options.

If you work in an organization and you’re tasked with creating eLearning content from scratch AND you have programmers familiar with Adobe programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver on your team, Captivate 6 might fit your needs best. However, unless you’re already familiar with Adobe programs, this of course also means that the learning curve for Captivate is pretty high. Captivate 6 allows designers to build custom templates, widgets and flash objects in the various programs, thereby giving each course its own visual identity and appearance. It works extremely well as a collaborative suite where various specialists work together to create content.

If you work in an organization that already has lots of PowerPoint training that needs to be converted into eLearning, create new material and you are NOT familiar with Adobe products, Articulate Storyline is going to be your best bet. If you know how to use PowerPoint you are going to feel comfortable using Storyline right out of the box.
Storyline not only includes many illustrated and photographic characters out of the box (more are available for purchase) but they also include variations of each character, which they are calling poses and these include; thinking, surprised, waiting, excited, etc. So it’s easy to find the right image for any project and this is another reason to recommend Storyline.
Another great feature of Storyline is that if you get stuck, you can access the amazing Articulate community for help.
